Havana, Cuba, is the birthplace of the Mojito. Traditionally,
a mojito is a cocktail that consists of five ingredients: white or spiced rum, sugar
(traditionally sugar cane juice), lime juice, soda water and mint.
The cocktail consisted of equal parts of tequila, Mexican orange liqueur
called Controy, and lime, shaken and served over ice in a salt-rimmed glass.
Takes its ingredients from the original definition of a cocktail,
defined in print in Hudson, New York in 1806 as a “concoction
of spirituous liquor, sugar, water and bitters”.
The piña colada (piña”pineapple,” and colada”strained”) is a sweet
cocktail made with rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice.
A cosmopolitan, or informally a cosmo, is a cocktail made with vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, and freshly squeezed or sweetened lime juice.
Created by legendary London bartender Dick Bradsell at The Brasserie in Soho in 1983. Originally called the “Vodka Espresso” the drink that went on to become the Espresso Martini, a modern day classic!
The story goes that whilst working at Harry’s Bar in Paris in the 1920’s Ferdinand Petiot combined vodka and tomato juice and gave it the name “Bloody Mary” after Queen Mary the first of England.
A Long Island Iced Tea is typically made with tequila, vodka, light rum, triple sec, gin, and a splash of cola, which gives the drink the same amber hue as its namesake
The aperol spritz (3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol and a dash of soda, garnished with a slice of orange), the classic cocktail which first gained popularity in the 1950’s from the venetian culture of mixing white wine and soda as an aperitif. The Aperol spritz is now the number 1 branded cocktail in the UK.
The recipe dates back to the 1970’s when this cocktail was a staple on cocktail menus. Taking some cues from sour categories, the Disaronno Sour is a favourite amongst drinkers with research showing that consumers favourite flavor when it come to cocktails is “sour”.
