Welcome to The Alexander Pope.
Within walking distance of Twickenham, on the banks of the Thames, in Strawberry Hill, The Alexander Pope is the perfect place to eat, drink and stay - from meeting friends after work, to a long, lazy Sunday lunch or a relaxing overnight stay in one of our 32 stunning boutique bedrooms. The large and impressive modern pub that was the 'Pope's Grotto' takes its name from the poet Alexander Pope (1688-1744), who had a house on the banks of the Thames near the site of the hotel.
He delighted in gardening and building his famous grotto. The gardens contained some of the earliest and finest cedar trees from Lebanon and a Spanish willow, cuttings from which were sent to the Empress of Russia in 1789. The Alexander Pope bedrooms have now undergone a beautiful makeover transforming them into a modern and chic “home from home” to compliment the pub’s delicious modern British food, tempting wine list and range of well-crafted drinks in the bar.
